Frequently Asked Questions About Retail Mobile Deposit Capture


It’s convenient and easy to use:
  • Sign the back of your check and write “For Mobile Deposit Only at NWB”.
  • Select ‘Mobile Deposits’ from the menu.
  • Click ‘Make a Deposit’.
  • Choose the eligible account for the deposit.
  • Enter the entire amount of your check.
  • Take a photo of the front and back of the endorsed check with your mobile device. These guidelines should be followed to capture the best photos:
    • Place your check on a dark-colored, plain surface that is well lit.
    • Position your camera directly over the check (not angled).
    • Fit all 4 corners of the check in the guides on your device’s camera screen.
    • Submit your deposit.
You can deposit checks payable in U.S. dollars and drawn at any U.S. based bank, including personal, business, and most government checks. Checks must be payable to and endorsed by the account holder.

The following checks or items are not eligible for Mobile Deposit: 3rd party checks; altered; any substitute check of the original; previously negotiated; drawn on a financial institution located outside the U.S.; not payable in U.S. currency; dated more than six months prior to the date of deposit; any that are irregular in any way; payable to cash; drawn on another account owned by you; registered government warrants; travelers checks, money orders, or postal orders; previously returned unpaid for any reason; stop payment order on deposited item; starter or counter checks; state warrants or other instruments.

If you make a deposit on a business day before 4:00pm PT/5:00pm MT, your money will typically be available the next day. If you deposit after 4:00pm PT/5:00pm MT or on a weekend or holiday, your deposit may be processed on the following business day and your money will typically be available the on that following business day.

Some checks can take longer to process. Northwest Bank will let you know if a hold will be placed on the deposit and will include details about when to expect your money.
Yes, the mobile daily deposit limit is $2,500 per item and $5,000 per business day. Should you exceed the established limit, the system will display message “This exceeds the maximum amount allowed for a single deposit”. Contact your local branch for assistance if the per item or per business day limit is exceeded and you need to make a deposit.

With Northwest Bank mobile deposit, a customer can make a deposit directly into an eligible checking or savings account using the Northwest Bank mobile app.
Northwest Bank customers who have uploaded the recent app version, logged in, accepted the terms and conditions, and who maintain an eligible checking or savings account are eligible to use mobile deposit.

Business days are Monday – Friday, except federal holidays.

Write “Mobile Deposit” and the date on the front of the check.

The item should be stored in a safe place for at least 90 days, and then destroyed (i.e., cross-cut shredder, scissors, or tear into small pieces) and dispose in different trash bags and on different days.

During this 90-day period, you must store the original paper check securely and you must make the original paper check available to us for review at any time.
There is no fee currently to make mobile deposits. A customer’s mobile carrier message and data rates may apply.
The system will automatically send a notification to the email address on file should a problem occur, and the deposit is rejected. Reason for rejection will be included in the email.
